The Garden Gates began our introduction to our brand new storehouse of Bonide products in Monday’s post. Today’s post features a number of fertilizers. Plant food is made three components: NPK. N stands for nitrogen, which we equate with the lush greenery of healthy plants. P stands for phosphorus, which produces flowers. K represents potassium, which induces root growth. Values for these components are indicated with a numerical value after the product name, for example, 10-10-10 or 5-10-5. Selecting the correct type of fertilizer requires evaluation of your plant needs. For the wintertime, you don’t want your plants to flower during the cold months so select fertilizer with a middle number that’s smaller than the N and K numbers. For big blooms in the spring, select a feed with a larger middle number. Let’s get growing!
